A Quick Guide to SimYard for New Players More Help
SimYard opened on Feb 2, 2008 with the 1898 season, and sims a whole season every month. The current month, September, is 2037. The season is broken out into parts which are assigned to different days of the month.

To play a game, go to the Public Fields, also called the Park. Enter a dugout and wait for an opponent. If this is your first time playing, stay on pages 1-3, since these are the rookie fields and only new teams can play there. Once your game has started, use the "Manager Controls" link on the game screen to make substitutions.

You can play in the park for free, but you can't contract any players since you have no source of revenue. When you sign up for a Stadium Permit ($5 / month), you get three teams and can build stadiums which collect ticket revenues. These revenues are used to pay players, build your stadium seating and concessions, and advertise your team. You can also join a league with two of your three teams, whose games will be played automatically. Each month there is a signing process for players who have no contracts, or for players on league teams with expiring contracts.

Review the calendar for the current month on the right, as well as the monthly schedule below it. Every day of the month isn't the same here on SimYard. Below is the monthly signing schedule. There is also a full schedule of events.

There are lots of features planned for the future. I'd like to see a hall of fame, all-star game with voting, more stats screens and reports, injuries, morale, and switch hitters. These are the major things missing at the moment which will be added over the next year.

Signing Schedule

11th - 20th: Public Offers - This is like a live auction where you can see the highest bid and outbid it if you like. Public Offers are binding if they're not outbid. This is the #1 way that prices are stabilized across the SimYard universe right now. Owners making bids can structure their bid up to 6 years, based on Stadium Permit length.

21st - 26th: Contract Extensions - Once the Public Offers are closed, the players who are currently in the last year of their contracts will offer extensions. These prices are based off the top Public Offer price on the player + 15%. The extension is for 1-3 years depending on the age of the player.

21st - 31st: Private Offers - This is a private auction with multiple signing rounds. The rounds take place 24 hours apart. If a player is already with a team, another team must bid at least double their own team in order to sign them in the any round except the last. At each round, any players with bids on them will sign with the highest bidder otherwise. If anyone made a Public Offer, it is binding to the first Private Offer round. They can outbid their own Public Offer, or hope it stands. If the player isn't signed in the first round, the Public Offer can be withdrawn.

Monthly Schedule

Spring Training: 1st & 2nd
All teams on the whole site can play pick-up games during Spring Training. Training can be specified for all players, and the players improve at four specific times on the 1st and 2nd.

Regular Season: 3rd - 26th
During the regular season, free players (without a stadium permit) play pick-up games against other free players and against the 3rd team of paying players. When you get a stadium permit, you can have three teams instead of one, and you can get stadiums for two of them and put them in leagues. The third team remains to play in the park, and can have no contracted players on it. Teams placed in leagues have set schedules during this time, arranged in mostly 3-game series with one game every two hours, and then an additional 4-6 hours between series. If you're present, you can manage the game, otherwise it is automanaged.

Postseason: 27th & 28th
Each league has their own postseason settings up to three rounds in a 5/7/7 format. The specific number of games and wildcards is dependent upon the number of divisions in the league. The free players in the park also a have a postseason for the top 53 teams. The top 5 get byes into the quarterfinals, while the next 48 teams play in a 4-round single-elimination wildcard playoff. The 3 teams that go 4-0 get the final 3 quarterfinal spots. Pick-up games are not available during the playoffs.

Winter Leagues: 29th - 31st
The remainder of the month is for winter leagues, which is like an extended spring training for Stadium Permit holders only. There's no extra training, just pick-up games. This is also when the signing rounds happen to sign players from the free park teams onto the league teams.
